Delicious Orange Dreamsicle Cake with cream frosting recipe
Ingredients:
1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon baking soda
½ teaspoon salt
¾ cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
3 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 tablespoon orange zest (from about 1 orange)
½ cup fresh orange juice
½ cup buttermilk (or regular milk + 1 tablespoon vinegar or lemon juice)
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 8-inch round cake pans or line them with parchment paper.
Mix dry ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (about 3-4 minutes).
Add eggs and flavors: Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract, orange zest, and orange juice.
Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk: Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the buttermilk. Start and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
Bake: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool: Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Orange Frosting
Ingredients:
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
3 tablespoons fresh orange juice (or more, depending on desired tanginess)
1 tablespoon orange zest
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
1-2 tablespoons heavy cream (if needed for consistency)
Instructions:
Beat the butter: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
Add powdered sugar: Gradually add powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating until fluffy and fully combined.
Add orange juice and zest: Stir in the orange juice, zest, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt. Beat until smooth.
Adjust consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add 1-2 tablespoons of heavy cream to reach your desired consistency.
Frost the cake: Once the cakes are completely cool, spread a layer of frosting on the first cake layer, then top with the second layer. Frost the entire cake and smooth it out.
