Ingredients
• 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
• 1 ½ tsp baking powder
• ½ tsp baking soda
• ½ tsp salt
• ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
• 1 cup (200g) sugar
• 2 large eggs
• 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or milk + 1 tbsp vinegar)
• 2 tsp vanilla extract
• 2 tbsp (15g) cocoa powder (for the red velvet flavor)
• 1 tbsp red food coloring (gel or liquid)
• 2 tsp white vinegar
Instructions
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Grease and line a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Stir in vanilla.
Add dry ingredients in three additions, alternating with buttermilk, mixing until just combined. Stir in vinegar and food coloring until evenly tinted red.
For the marble effect: Separate a small portion of the red batter, leave it plain (light-colored base), and swirl it back into the main red velvet batter when pouring into the loaf pan. Use a knife to create gentle swirls.
Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Let cool before slicing.
